Dr Faraj performs upper gastrointestinal endoscopies and colonoscopies, and is GESA accredited.
Gastroscopy
A thin tube with a camera at its tip is used to view the upper gastrointestinal tract (oesophagus, stomach and duodenum) and take biopsies to diagnose a variety of conditions.
Colonoscopy
A camera is used to examine the colon and part of the small bowel. It may be recommended for bleeding, a positive faecal occult blood test, a change in bowel habits, or a strong family history of bowel cancer. During the procedure polyps may be removed, cancers biopsied and haemorrhoids banded.
Bowel preparation (strong laxatives) is taken the evening before, so most patients only need one day off work. Dr Faraj will explain the preparation required.
Nasendoscopy
Performed in Dr Faraj’s rooms. After numbing medication, a thin camera is passed through a nostril to examine the back of the throat and vocal cords. The numbness wears off within a couple of hours.
